D'oh! When I wrote about reverse product placement back in January, I framed the story by using Duff Beer as an example of a fictional brand that could be made real. I bounced the idea off of a Fox rep, however, who said there no plans to reverse PP Duff anytime soon. Well, it turns out there are. My story was technically correct since there is no Duff Beer in the works but there is a Duff Energy Drink. Boston America Corp. (which is actually in Woburn, MA—what's up with that?) is planning to release a Simpsons-braded Duff drink next month. Boston America specializes in reverse PP (though rep Matt Kavet said he didn't know that's what it is called) and has also come out with Scooby Snacks with Warner Bros., and Cheesy Poofs with South Park. Who knew?
Why? Because it's not served in a beverage glass. A straw would seem
silly, no? Sometimes you see people drinking broth, when all the
goodies are gone from the soup, however that is considered bad
manners.

For several years in the 1980s, the weight of the Whopper was increased to 1/3 lb. The bun was also replaced by a Kaiser roll. The Whopper reverted to the original formulation a few years later. The "Third Pound Whopper" made a return in the early 2000s, but has since been discontinued again.

I like the train of thought in your post but I tend to think you would do well to back up your thought process with a very small amount more solid data.
